Sanjay Varshney, PhD, CFA®
Principal and Founder
Dr. Varshney has experience in the investments industry for over three decades. Prior to founding Goldenstone, he was a senior wealth management executive for several years at Wells Fargo Private Bank, serving as a Senior Vice President and a Senior Investment Strategist for California and Nevada, providing leadership and investment strategy for over $200 billion in assets. He has also served as Vice President for Economic and Regional Partnerships, Dean of the College of Business Administration at Sacramento State for 10 years, Professor of Finance at University of San Francisco, Dean of the Business School at State University of New York in Utica, Owner and Founder of a Registered Investment Advisory firm in Syracuse, and consultant at other firms including Arthur Andersen. Dr. Varshney is also a Professor of Finance at Sacramento State, regularly produces local economic forecasts in the Greater Sacramento region, and has conducted numerous business and economic impact studies. Dr. Varshney earned an undergraduate degree in accounting and financial management from Bombay University, a master’s degree in economics from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD in finance from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.
Dr. Varshney has appeared in media interviews on topics of the economy and markets. He has published in magazines, newspapers, and professional journals including the Financial Analysts Journal.
Andres Villegas, CFA®
Principal and Founder
Andres Villegas has experience in the investments industry for over 15 years. Prior to co-founding Goldenstone, Andres served as Vice President and Investment Strategist at The Private Bank of Wells Fargo, where he managed a $400+ million portfolio for high-net-worth clients across California, Texas, New Mexico, and beyond. He built and designed bespoke investment strategies for clients navigating complex financial, retirement, and estate planning needs. Andres contributes regularly to economic forecasts for the Greater Sacramento region and to publications and media initiatives of the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce. He previously served on the Board of the CFA Society of Sacramento.
Andres holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, completed advanced coursework at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.
